PreK Program

Indianapolis Public Schools offers a Pre-K program which serves children turning 4 years old on or before August 1st, is developmentally appropriate, offering play-based experiences that support physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth.

All students must enroll through Enroll Indy and complete an application through On My Way PreK. Go to the Family and Social Services Administration website and click on “Click here to apply.”

Daily Schedule

MORNING MEETING

We begin each day with conversation, planning, SEL activities, songs and fun.

MORNING CHOICES

We begin the day by playing, exploring, choosing activities and conversing with teachers and friends. Teachers will lead small group activities during this time.

PHONICS

Heggerty Phonemic Awareness whole group literacy lesson and alphabet games and activities and stories.

Outdoor Play and Lunch

We try to have students play outside almost every day! PreK Students bring their rain and snow gear to explore nature and play together. Students eat lunch in the school cafeteria with their class.

literacy and math

We will have many choices in our activities and play. We will explore topics deeply through invitations to play and project work research. Students will also work in small groups with a teacher on literacy and mathematical concepts during this time.

rest time

All students are given a 45 minute rest time during the day. Cots are provided for each student.

studio

PreK students participate in Media/STEM, Art, Music, Movement studio at our school.

closing circle

We will remember our day together. Discuss class business. Think about our learning projects. Explore materials. Sing songs. Complete our daily calendar.

Documents

For licensing we need copies of these items IN SCHOOL (even if they uploaded to PowerSchool already).

Each child must have on file IN OUR CLASSROOM by Sept 1:

-Up to date immunization records (if you are unsure what shots your child may need, we have a copy of the requirements)

-A copy of a birth certificate (age verification)

-Discipline policy signed (will get first week of school)

-Emergency contact information

-Family surveys (will get first week of school)
