Dismissal Changes
Any changes to a student’s dismissal (ex: bus rider to car rider) for the day must be submitted to the main office by 3:15 PM. Students will only be released to adults on the designated pick up list. If you would like to add someone to the list or make a change, please call the main office 317.226.4255.
Early Dismissal
If a student must leave school early, the parent/guardian or approved adult must sign the student out from the main office before 3:15 PM. Early release should only be used in emergencies to prevent loss of student instruction.
Attendance
Attending school regularly is essential for a child’s academic and social development. Parents/guardians are required by Indiana Law to ensure that their child attends school daily. Non-emergency appointments are encouraged to be arranged outside of school hours and during school breaks. The following types of absences are considered excused or exempt. All other absences will be considered unexcused without administrative approval.
● Bereavement (Death or Funeral)
● Court Appearance
● Documented Medical Appointment or Illness
● Missed Bus
● Pre-Approved Absence by Administrator
● Pre-Approved Learning Opportunity by Administrator
● Religious Observation
Reporting an Absence
This year, we will be using an Absence Reporting Form to report absences. Please be sure to complete the form prior to 10am on the day of the absence. You may also choose to report planned absences ahead of time. If you have additional questions, you may call the main office or email Ms. Taylor at taylorjanice@myips.org. Documentation can be emailed or turned into Ms. Taylor when the student returns to school.
Consequences Chronic Unexcused Absences: The school will follow the guidance of this district’s Code of Conduct which include the following:
• Verbal & Written Notification
• Parent/Guardian Conference with Attendance Team
• Home Visit with Attendance Team
• Attendance Plan
• Referral to the Marion County Prosecutor Office for Truancy
Tardiness: Any student arriving after the tardy bell (9:20 AM), must be accompanied with an adult and signed in to receive a pass to class. Excessive tardiness may result in a mandatory conference with a school official.
Before and After Care
Birthdays
Can I bring in treats or invitations for my child’s birthday?
We understand that birthdays are important milestones, however, please refrain from bringing or sending treats to school. Classroom teachers will recognize students in a meaningful way. Additionally, party invitations may only be shared if all students will be invited. If not, please communicate with families outside of school.
Bus Riders
If you are in need of bus transportation, you must opt in through PowerSchool for returning students and during registration for new students. For assistance, please call our administrative assistance, Ms. Taylor, at 317-226-4255.
- Students must be at their authorized stop 10 minutes prior to their scheduled pick-up time.
- Call IPS transportation at 317.226.4000 with any questions and/or concerns.
- For emergencies, please call the main office or IPS Police at 317.226.4633 if after hours.
- Proof of a new address or daycare must be submitted to the office to make bus stop changes which will go into effect in 3-5 business days.
Car Riders
K-5 car riders are dropped off and picked up in the parking lot near the gym. For arrival, cars will enter from
54th street, circle around the back of the parking lot, and enter either Lane 1 or Lane 2 (formed by the traffic
cones and white lane lines). Please have your child exit/enter your car on the passenger side when a staff
member comes to greet them. Do not leave your car unattended in the line.
For dismissal, please have your child’s car rider name card hanging on your passenger side visor. Name cards
will be given out at Meet the Teacher Night. If you need a new car rider name card, please contact the front
office. Six cars will be loaded at a time. A staff member will escort your child to the car. If you are the first car
please pull up to cone #1 where the sidewalk starts. Children will enter the cars when all cars are stopped.
When leaving our parking lot, you must turn right on 54th street. This will keep the flow of traffic moving. Please drive SLOWLY for the safety of the students and staff.
Children WILL NOT be released from the gym to anyone on foot. Please do not park across the street and
walk to pick up your child.
Communication
Staff members consistently communicate with families via phone calls, texts, and emails through our messaging system. In addition, weekly classroom and school newsletters are emailed each week. Principal Clark sends a weekly update on Sunday. Please be sure that your contact information (phone & email) and address is correct in the office.
DURING THE DAY COMMUNICATION:
Office staff will deliver all emergency calls and messages to students and teachers. Students and teachers will not be called to the phone during class time and calls will not be put through to classrooms during instructional time. If you’re calling to make dismissal changes, please be sure to call by 3:15 PM. Students will be allowed to call home for emergency purposes under direct staff supervision.

Title 1
Title 1
Title I is a federally funded program that provides additional support to schools to help students who are not yet achieving at grade level or are at risk of falling behind. Funding is based on the percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, and schools with at least 40% eligibility may operate a schoolwide program. Eliza Blaker School 55 is proud to be a full Title I school, providing resources and support to help all students succeed.
Each fall, parents and guardians of students at IPS Eliza Blaker School 55 are asked to review and sign the Title I Compact. This agreement reflects a shared commitment between the school, student, and parent/guardian to support successful student learning. We encourage families to read the compact together and provide their signature.
Each spring, we evaluate, revise, and update our Title I Parent Involvement Policy and School Compact for the upcoming school year to ensure we are best serving all students and their families. We invite families to review the documents linked below, share any suggestions for improvement, and attend our annual spring meetings, and always provide feedback regarding Title 1 at IPS Eliza Blaker School 55.
